Battery Recycling

We adhere to strict protocols for the safe handling and recycling of lithium-ion and household batteries. Whether batteries are loose, installed in devices, or damaged, our team supplies the correct containers, hazard labels, and documentation to ensure legal compliance and reduce risk.

Battery Recycling & Lithium-Ion Battery Management

Lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in laptops, tablets, and cell phones, are classified as dangerous goods under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act due to their chemical and physical properties.

  • All Greentec drivers and carriers hold valid TDG certification.

Battery Types Accepted

Lithium-ion Batteries

  • Accepted in devices or as loose batteries

Other Small-Format Batteries

  • Nickel-metal hydride

  • Alkaline

  • Other types (please inquire for details)

Safe Handling Requirements

Loose Non-Damaged Batteries:
  • Ensure packages are labeled with lithium battery hazard symbols; Greentec will supply labels upon arrival.
Damaged/Swollen/Leaking Batteries:

These pose a higher risk and must be handled separately in UN-rated containers. Common signs include:

  • Swelling, leaking, strong odour, or misshapen casings.

If identified, notify Greentec before pick-up

Greentec will supply these containers, DDR (Damaged, Defective & Recalled) Kits, and the required TDG labels upon arrival.

Partnering with Greentec ensures full regulatory compliance, safe handling, and environmental responsibility when disposing of lithium-ion and other types of batteries.
