Witnessed
Seal breaking at the facility is witnessed and documented as part of the chain-of-custody record
A Greentec business pickup is not a courier service. It is a fully managed, certified end-to-end engagement. Greentec supplies materials, performs the audit, executes data destruction, controls transport, and delivers documentation. Your team coordinates access and confirms scope. Nothing else is required on your side.
Every device is catalogued by make, model, serial number, and asset tag before it moves. The inventory forms the foundation of the chain-of-custody record and is the basis for every certificate issued at program close.
Greentec technicians supply packing materials and pack equipment on-site. Devices are secured in tamper-evident containers. Seals are documented before containers leave your premises.
Data-bearing devices receive certified erasure under NAID AAA and IEEE 2882-2022 standards, performed on-site where required or in sealed containers transported to the Greentec facility. A Certificate of Data Erasure or Destruction is issued per device, tied to its serial number.
Transport is conducted in GPS-tracked vehicles operated by security-vetted Greentec technicians. Chain of custody is documented at every handoff from your site through final processing at the certified facility.
Container seals applied at your site are broken only at the Greentec facility, with the break witnessed and documented. The sealed record from pickup to processing is included in the audit documentation.
The engagement closes with device-level certificates, a comprehensive audit report, recycling weights, CO2e avoidance and landfill diversion data, and material recovery figures structured for compliance records, regulatory submissions, and ESG disclosures.
Unmanaged pickup, informal courier, and drop-off arrangements produce the same outcome: a period during which data-bearing devices are outside organizational control and outside any documented chain of custody. Canadian privacy legislation does not recognize that gap as acceptable.
Chain of custody begins at your site, not at Greentec's facility
Most data breaches involving retired hardware occur during the gap between a device leaving an organization's control and arriving at a processing facility. Greentec's chain-of-custody documentation begins at the moment of first contact, with sealed containers, witnessed handoffs, and GPS-tracked transport eliminating that gap entirely.
Federal privacy legislation holds organizations accountable from first touchpoint
PIPEDA's accountability principle applies to personal information throughout its full lifecycle, including the moment a device is handed to a third party for disposal. An undocumented pickup is an undocumented transfer of custody over personal information. Device-level certificates issued from a chain-of-custody-controlled pickup are the documented evidence that the obligation was discharged.
Current international standard for information sanitization of storage devices
IEEE 2882-2022 is the current international standard for information sanitization, covering methods, verification, and documentation for every major storage media type. Greentec's data destruction procedures are NAID AAA certified and IEEE 2882-2022 aligned, providing a documented basis for any audit, insurance claim, or regulatory review of how devices were handled.
Five stages, fully documented, from initial scoping through final certificate delivery. Pickup is Stage 2. Every stage before and after it exists to ensure Stage 2 produces a defensible record.
Greentec accepts the full range of IT equipment, from individual data-bearing devices targeted for certified destruction to full-load facility cleanouts. Both targeted and mixed-load pickups move through the same chain-of-custody process.

For organizations that require evidence of destruction before devices leave their premises, Greentec technicians can perform certified data destruction at your site under NAID AAA and IEEE 2882-2022 procedures. Each device receives a certificate on-site.
For smaller volumes or equipment accumulated between larger program cycles, the Public Drop-Off service at a Greentec facility processes devices through the same certified chain of custody without a scheduled on-site engagement.
Greentec holds every major ITAD certification, each maintained through ongoing independent third-party audits rather than a single point-in-time assessment. Certificates are available for procurement documentation, insurance submissions, and audit response packages.
The highest independently audited standard for data destruction. Requires scheduled and unannounced audits of operations, staff, and equipment on an ongoing basis. Referenced in Canadian federal and provincial procurement requirements.
Responsible electronics recycling and refurbishment. Covers downstream material management, data security throughout the recycling process, and environmental performance. First achieved in Canada by Greentec in 2022.
Certified quality management system governing consistent, audit-ready documentation and process controls across every Greentec engagement and every partner location.
Certified environmental management system controlling the environmental impact of all operations, including hazardous material segregation and downstream handling of recycled device materials.
Certified occupational health and safety management covering field pickup crews, on-site technicians, and facility-based processing staff at every stage.
Greentec's business pickup service is purpose-built for organizations that carry specific data destruction, documentation, and compliance obligations. These sectors represent the organizations that most commonly require the chain-of-custody standard a Greentec pickup provides.
Federal and provincial agencies retiring classified and sensitive systems. Onsite data destruction available for environments where media cannot leave the premises unsanitized.
Patient records and PHI destroyed to NAID AAA standards before devices leave the facility. Documentation supports PHIPA obligations and provincial privacy requirements.
School boards, colleges, and universities retiring student-facing devices across multiple campuses under a coordinated program with consistent documentation.
Multi-site enterprise programs replacing fragmented regional pickups with a single coordinated engagement, consistent documentation standards, and consolidated reporting.
Organizations with sustainability mandates receive CO2e avoidance, recycling weights, landfill diversion, and material recovery data structured for ESG disclosures and board reporting.
